Ultra Electronics, TCS Launches UltraSteel

December 5, 2014 - Montreal, Canada — Ultra Electronics, TCS is proud to announce the launch of UltraSteel, a proprietary frequency and space/polarization diversity feature used with the Ultra ORION radio system.

UltraSteel is a unique radio system capability that ensures communications reliability under adverse channel conditions or active jamming by automatically switching between frequencies, polarization, or redundant channels and hot standby transceivers internally to or within the radio platform. It combats co-channel interference, fading and ducting to enhance radio link robustness and availability. UltraSteel helps reduce radio equipment requirements and is suited for multiple applications such as air defence, long-range high capacity links in extreme weather conditions and long range over-water communications.

The Ultra ORION family of software-defined radio solutions can fulfill multiple roles such as backhaul repeater, range extension node, aggregation/ distribution point, WLAN and a remote station for point-to-multipoint access at the network's edge. It is designed to enable reliable high-capacity communications for land, sea and air operations with over 50 different tactical modes including interoperability with thousands of previously fielded HCLOS radios across the world.
