Ultra Electronics, TCS Awarded Contract for its Mission Adaptive Tactical Radio

December 17, 2015 - Montreal, Canada— Ultra Electronics, TCS announced today that Canada has procured their Mission Adaptive Tactical Radio also known as the Ultra ORION X505-V.

Identified as a unique product innovation in 2014 by the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP), the software defined X505-V radio was selected by the Canadian Forces to support rapid HQ deployment and Network Enabled Operations.

Based on 4G waveform technology, the X505-V is the first tactical radio to leverage simultaneous multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) waveforms to support rapid HQ deployment and dispersed operations.

The unique “network- in- a- box” can simultaneously operate a high-capacity mesh or point-to-multipoint network while providing smart device access, which facilitates HQ deployment and redeployment and makes Network Enabled Operations possible.

Iwan Jemczyk, President, Ultra Electronics TCS, commented: “We are very proud to provide our Canadian Forces with new Brigade deployment capabilities and greater tactical mobility using innovative technology developed in Montreal.”

The X505-V provides robust vehicular links at high data rates enabling armoured vehicles to benefit from enhanced command, control and situational awareness needed to face complex security threats and effectively support disaster recovery missions. Wireless enabled HQs and the ability to receive live video feeds from remote vehicles and CPs increase forces agility, allowing them to concentrate or disperse more rapidly as well as planning and conducting actions faster than the adversary. ORION radios also facilitate joint operations by providing over-the-air compatibility between ground fixed, ground mobile and maritime mobile elements.
