US opts for ORION as WIN-T translator

Ultra Electronics, Tactical Communications Systems (TCS) has received an order for its new Ultra ORION GRC-245C fourth generation High Capacity Line of Sight (HCLOS) radio from the US Army Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T).

The contract, the exact value of which was not disclosed but which was described as "multi-million dollar", will address the terrestrial transmission requirements of the Tactical Network Modernization project for Army Expeditionary Signal Battalions (ESB). In US service the system will be designated AN/GRC-245C.

ORION was first showcased at the DSEi exhibition in London in September and is due to be launched in the US at the Association of the US Army (AUSA) Exposition in Washington in October.
